Cole's story
Cole grew up in Vancouver, learned to surf on weekend runs to the island, and finally moved out to the coast for good. He splits wood for the sauna himself.
The place
A cedar lodge in the rainforest five minutes from Cox Bay, built for cold-water surf and storm watching. Thick wetsuits in every size, a wood-fired sauna for after, and whales passing the headland in spring.
